Reconfigured Bathroom

Reimaging a non-functioning bathroom may sound like an impossible task, but a design/build remodeler makes it an easy transformation

This upstairs hall bathroom sat unused in the bustling home of five people. Why? Because it lacked functionality. The sloped ceiling made it impossible to stand up in the tub/shower and the original 1960’s plumbing was aging, leaking, and in an overall sorry state. The lavender countertop and painted backsplash tiles may have been trendy at one point but were now screaming for a facelift.

THE PROCESS

While no walls were removed, the floorplan was completely reconfigured to maximize space.

BathroomBEFORE

The tub was taken out and the shower was moved to where the toilet had been. The light from the window still shines in thanks to the glass shower wall and door, making this upstairs bathroom feel open and spacious despite its narrow footprint (6’5″x 13″). The homeowners opted for an all-in-one vanity with white shaker style doors that sits up off the Manoa LVP floor, more like a piece of furniture than a standard built-in vanity.

THE FINISHES

The Moen plumbing fixtures in matte black pair nicely with the lighter colored textiles selected for the bathroom, including the Persian style runner and lighter colored towels. The shower floor is a hexagon tile in honed white and gray marble by Arabescato Carrara.

Rounded domes shade the Just Enough Retro Vanity Light, creating a flawless light source. The matte black hue sets a sleek tone for this trendy fixture. Vintage in appearance but new in design, incorporates a dash of yesteryear into this spectacular space.
