Whole House Refresh

This remodel project involved the entire home, giving both the homeowners and the VanderBeken Remodel team an opportunity to let this Camano Island house and its stunning views shine.

We remodeled all of the living spaces, including separate Family, Living, and Game Rooms, as well as the Dining Room, Kitchen, Primary Bedroom and Bathroom. The aesthetic throughout the home is modern, urban nautical, combining neutral greys, concrete and wood with bright white accents, stainless steel hardware, and bright white window trim.

kitchen, beech cabinets, before-2The kitchen’s facelift included replacing outdated cabinetry with rich espresso-finished cabinetry complemented with Pental Sparkling White quartz  countertops along the wall, but white cabinets and darker Pental quartz in Grey Savoie for the island counter. We also installed white cabinets with Pental Grey Savoie quartz in the game room’s dry bar and guest bathroom, while the espresso cabinets and Pental Sparkling White quartz are echoed in the primary bathroom. The horizontal tile backsplash adds texture to the kitchen without overwhelming, and we removed some of the original wall cabinetry creates space and breath in the room. New kitchen appliances in stainless steel pair with the new sink, faucet, and cabinet hardware for a sleek modern aesthetic. Elongated teardrop pendant lights over the bar serve the secondary purpose of visually separating the kitchen from the dining room.

We transformed an open space behind the island bar into a sitting room by removing a railing and adding subfloor. We laced in red oak hardwood with a grey stain to match in order to create the friendly sitting area just off the kitchen. The original space overlooked the office, which we converted into a chic wine room perfect for lazy nights in or hosting guests.

We refinished and restained the old narrow blonde wood floor in the kitchen and dining area with wider grey oak finished flooring to tie the rooms together. We also updated the window frames throughout the house to create more cohesion. Throughout the master bathroom and first floor, we installed Metrofloor Engage Genesis “Mist” luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring, and used a fun bright grey wave-textured carpet in the family room and master bedroom. We powder-coated the original white railings in a rich dark grey to tie the stairs to the rest of the home’s modern nautical feel without overpowering the airy loft layout.

Master Bathroom Remodel, Free Standing Tub, VanderBeken, Camano Island FINALThe primary bathroom’s overhaul included replacing a large glass block wall with walls to separate it from the master bedroom and moving the toilet to a separate area for privacy. We exchanged the original double vanities for a single floating vanity with two sinks, in order to create the space for the toilet’s new nook. An LED backlit mirror created light over the his and hers vanity without losing wall space, and a short glass tile backsplash brings a modern flair to the original glass blocks. The free-standing tub takes center stage, balancing the large glass shower. The resulting master bathroom is welcoming and relaxing, with space to move and plenty of natural light from the massive window over the tub and glass doors to the patio.

Last but far from least, we used Wall Concept Nature Panels in “Norway” to create a reclaimed wood-look wall from the floor up to the ceiling behind the master bed. This fun accent wall complements the nautical theme of the home, provides a gorgeous oversized headboard, and ties together with its twin “Sweden” colored accent wall in the living room. Along the seaside theme, we installed “Surf’s Up” carpet by Shaw Floors in both living room and bedrooms. We also revived the built-ins in all of the bedrooms with fresh paint to match the updated look and décor.

What We Love:

Every aspect of this whole-home remodel considers the views and natural light of the house with stunning results.

Our Favorite Detail:

The driftwood style “reclaimed” wood accent wall behind the master bed serves both as a stunning oversized headboard and ties together with the same accent in the living room’s media center to highlight the seaside views and warm the overall personality of the house.
